Islam means aquiring peace through submission, surrender & obedience to the will of Allah (swt).
A Muslim is one who submits, surrenders and is obedient to Allah.
The word Allah is an Arabic word meaning – the one and only god -. There can not be any plurals or other forms such as; gods, goddess or godless.
There are seven fundamental beliefs that every Muslim must accept as part of the religion. These are called Emanul Mufassil (faith listed in detail).
The core beliefs are
- Belief in God
- Belief in the angels.
- Belief in the revealed books of God.
- Belief in the prophets of God.
- Belief in the last day.
- Belief in the divine measurement of human affairs.
- Belief in life after death.
Is Allah a different God to the Christian & and Jewish god?
When the Muslims mention Allah they speak about the same God as that of Abraham, Moses and Jesus, peace be upon them all.
Even Arab Christians, who speak Arabic say “Allah” when they refer to God.
The Qur’an states in surah 29: ayat 49
Tell (the Jews and Christian), ‘We believe in the Revelation which has come down to us (the Qur’an) and in that which came down to you (the Torah and the Gospel); Our God and your God is one; and it’s to him we surrender.”
